According to the results of this Zogby Poll commissioned by WakeUpWalmart.com, Americans are viewing Wal-Mart less favourably these days. The results show that 56% of the 1,012 randomly selected adults agreed with the statement "Wal-Mart was bad for America. It may provide low prices, but these prices come with a high moral and economic cost."
Now, one might wonder how many of these respondents actually don't shop at Wal-Mart for that reason.
I've seen market research (namely in the book "Call to Action" by Jeff Eisenberg and Bryan Eisenberg) that suggests that people's responses on a survey don't necessarily match their actual behaviour. People tend to take the path of least resistance (and price) when shopping for things like commodity items, which Wal-Mart has a lot of. I'd be willing to bet that many people would buy from Wal-Mart on the basis of low price and convenience alone no matter how strongly they agree with the statement that Wal-Mart is bad for America.
