     Automated Voice Response System Hell

Science/TechHave you ever called a customer service number and get one of those automated systems that respond to your voice? Most of these systems are rather terrible in that they often don't properly recognize what you've said. The worst part is that some don't even provide an option to use the telephone keypad if all else fails. Regardless of the kind of automated system, just getting to a regular human can be a pain.

Blogger Paul English has a list of tips to bypass the automated system to get a human for various companies. It looks pretty interesting.

I was quite impressed with UPS's automated voice response system though. I was able to reschedule a delivery for a package with no issues. It understood me just fine, and was rather user-friendly. The only thing was that there was no option (mentioned) to use the telephone keypad if desired. Good thing the voice recognition seemed to work. Your mileage may vary though.
